The Administrator of Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, Amb. Desmond Akawor, said the Authority is set for an aggressive development Control Drive to curb the menace of unstructured and unauthorized development within the New City Area.
Amb. Akawor said this recently during the presentation of 55 Development Control Officers to the Board Chairman for induction, including five Hilux vans to support development control exercise.
The Administrator also added that with the relocation of the Authority to its permanent site in Igwurutali, GPHCDA is repositioned to tackle unauthorized development, which has affected the old city; stressing that the results of which are haphazard development and flooding of most parts of Port Harcourt and its environs.
“We will ensure that all the mistakes of the old city of Port Harcourt are not repeated in the New City”, he stated.
Performing the inauguration ceremony, the Chairman – Board of Directors of Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, Chief Ferdinand Alabaraba, charged the officers to be effective and professional in discharging their duties.
The Chief Alabaranba however, cautioned the officers against compromise and extortion, or other acts capable of tarnishing the image of the Authority.
The Head of Development Control, TP Faithful Worahu, in his acceptance speech, thanked the Authority for providing 5Hilux vans to enhance Development Control activities; stating that his officers are fully prepared for a thorough development control drive to avoid any distortion in the New City Master Plan.
He assured that his team would remain good ambassadors of the Authority.
