LOCAL COUNCILS TO COLLABORATE WITH GREATER PORT HARCOURT IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NEW CITY MASTER PLAN 26th May, 2016
Talks about Collaboration between the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA) and some Local Government Areas within its jurisdiction have begun.
This will surely facilitate the implementation of the New City Master Plan; encourage rapid economic growth and infrastructural development; as well as address the issue of multiple taxation.
Ambassador Desmond Akawor, GPHCDA Administrator, said this recently during a meeting with some Local Government Caretaker Chairmen within the Authority’s operational zones; adding that the Authority is set for an aggressive development control drive to stop unapproved development, especially on the waterways and green areas, which if unchecked, could distort the New City Master Plan.
The Local Government Areas are: Port Harcourt City, Obio Akpor, Ikwerre, Etche, Okirika, Ogu/Bolo, Oyibo and Eleme. Areas of collaboration with the LGAs include: Information sharing; regulation and enforcement; building approval; layouts and revenue generation.
Responding on behalf of the Council Chairmen, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike (CTC – Ikwerre), expressed readiness to support the New City Project, reaffirming that the synergy between the Authority and the LGAs would discourage haphazard development, checkmate loss of revenue to the State and encourage investors.
